Week 67: Another Goal Achieved!

I am going to keep it pretty short this week because I want to focus on one event from this week that may seem small but was actually pretty big for me. Plus I am trying to make my updates a bit more concise to help the readers.

Looking Back…. 6/18/2017

The weekend that I started my weight loss journey I wrote the following passage in my daily journal. The prompt for this was that I read a tip about how to be successful in a journey like this and that it starts with knowing your “why”… effectively your business case for the project.

I really want to get healthier. I hate being so overweight.. I hate not being able to buy clothes in normal stores and having to always be concerned about weight capacity on things like camp chairs. I hate not being able to do things that I know Liz wants to do like horseback riding. Plus I hate the little aches and pains, the terrible stomach and being so self-conscious all the time. But, it is way too easy to keep doing what I am doing instead of fixing it. I want to get better and have to challenge myself to do so.

That was just over 15 months and 130 pounds ago.

Giddy Up!

Well this weekend I went horseback riding with Liz!

On Saturday Liz and I took our niece Julia to Marmon Valley Farms near Indian Lake. We spent some time playing with the farm animals before hopping onto our horses for an hour long trail ride up the Mad River mountain range up to one of the highest points in Ohio.

Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures of myself on my horse Jake and I mostly just focused on enjoying my time. But here are some pics of the animals.

This was a big moment for me! I haven’t been on a horse since I was a kid and last year at this time I was still too heavy to meet their weight limits. Now I am way lighter and barely overweight at all. It has been a lot of hard work but it has paid off.

Of course I am pretty sore this morning. If the horseback riding isn’t enough to bring soreness it wasn’t my only exercise. The horseback riding came after a 7.75 mile run for my continued Columbus Half Marathon prep … I am starting to taper my distance runs because the marathon is rapidly approaching.

I continue to be excited and surprised about how much progress I have made and continue to make. I love that I have embarked on this journey and that I have discovered my strength and my purpose.

Thanks for reading! Check back next week for more!
