This was week 146 of my Operation Melt journey that started with my goal to escape obesity and lose over 100 pounds in under a year. Now I am sharing my journey to both keep myself accountable and to help you as you work to crush your own goals.
Best of Operation Melt: Part 6
This is the last week of my Best of Operation Melt blog reposts that I introduced in my end of February post. After this week I will be back to new posts and have some new ideas to share. But, this week, I am looking back at one of my favorite moments (and favorite posts) from the past 146 weeks.
On October 21, 2018, just 16 months after starting my weight loss journey, I ran in the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon and completed my first half marathon. Looking back on this day I still get a little emotional reflecting on the events of the day and what they represented.
When I was in the corrals at 6:30 in the morning I started getting emotional. The energy was amazing and I was one of these people. I was an athlete! This is something I never thought that I would say in my life. But, there I was, 41 years old and had become an athlete after 40 years of being the fat kid, the fat guy and the person whose health was at risk.
At the end of the race (which wasn’t easy and full of adversity) I was really emotional. I was standing in a place called “Celebration Village” and tears were streaming down my face. Looking back it has become clear to me why. When I crossed that finish line I wasn’t just successfully completing my first half marathon. There was another finish line too… I was successful with one of the biggest goals I had ever set for myself, I had transformed my life. I broke free from obesity, I accomplished a major goal, I did it my way and I had become an unstoppable force. And I was very proud of myself.
So this week’s Best of Operation Melt post was from one week after the race where I posted a detailed recap of the experience. Read Week 71: 325 Pounds to Half Marathon at https://www.operationmelt.com/2018/10/28/week-71-325-pounds-to-half-marathon/
That’s it! That is 6 weeks of resting and reflecting on my journey. That concludes 6 big moments that represent the best of what I have done… so far! Thanks so much for reading and I look forward to getting back to producing new content. And I have some fresh ideas!
