Best of Operation Melt: Whispers, Voices, Screams, Bricks

Happy Summer! While I’m out having fun (and chasing my goals) in the summer heat, I am only publishing new blogs every 2 weeks.

But there’s no need to be sad because I am re-sharing this post from 2020.

Enjoy this Best Of Operation Melt blog, and stay tuned for a thrilling new post coming your way next week.

Oprah Moment

I have a confession: sometimes I am a fan of Oprah. I semi-frequently listen to her Super Soul Conversations podcast and occasionally watch Super Soul Sunday with my wife. Every so often, there is something on Oprah that really speaks to me. That’s the case with the story of the whispers of the universe. Here is the concept in Oprah’s own words.

I say the universe speaks to us, always, first in whispers. And a whisper in your life usually feels like ‘hmm, that’s odd.’ Or, ‘hmm, that doesn’t make any sense.’ Or, ‘hmm, is that right?’ It’s that subtle. And if you don’t pay attention to the whisper, it gets louder and louder and louder. I say it’s like getting thumped upside the head. If you don’t pay attention to that, it’s like getting a brick upside your head. You don’t pay attention to that—the brick wall falls down. That is the pattern that I see in my life and so many other people’s lives. And so, I ask people, ‘What are the whispers? What’s whispering to you now?

Oprah

Oprah’s Whispers of the Universe concept really resonates with me and is often the secret to many things in my life, including how I come up with ideas for my weekly blog. I just have to listen to the whispers.

How do you think of this stuff?

A friend of mine was recently talking to me about my Operation Melt blog and said, “I don’t know how you come up with new stuff every week; I couldn’t ever do that.” There was a moment when I was creating last week’s post when I became aware of how I come up with many of my topics. And it starts with a whisper.

My posts usually start with some inspiring moment from my life and grow from there. This happened most recently with last week’s post: Can a C Be Better Than an A?

I initially contemplated writing about the importance of effort versus easy wins. But I wasn’t convinced it was a topic worth writing about now.

Then, one of the courses in my coach training talked about talent versus effort.

Then, I heard a podcast about effort versus talent. Then another and another.

Everywhere I turned, I was reminded about the topic in the back of my mind.

Sure, this could have been a matter of confirmation bias, but I listened to the whisper. I wrote last week’s post and felt great about it.

Whispers, Voices, Screams, Bricks

For all too long, I ignored nature’s whispers and got lots of screams and bricks.

I ignored my fitness, and it took the scream of a 325-pound weigh-in before I acted on this.

I ignored the fact that my job didn’t feel right, which made me feel unhappy and caused me to question if I really had anything to contribute. It took becoming truly miserable and getting laid off before I rediscovered my value.

The list of times I ignored nature’s whispers is far too long. But now I have made a commitment to myself to try to never ignore nature’s whispers ever again. Now, I listen very carefully.

I listened to the whispers that people want to hear about my journey, so I launched the Operation Melt blog. I listened to the whisper that I could write a book, so I did.

Now, I am listening to the whisper that says my talents and experiences can help other people achieve their goals sooner. So, I continue writing and trying new things (such as my PM Believer series). I recently completed my coaching certification and am starting to take the next steps there.

Fast-forward to today, and I am running a coaching business!

When you start listening to the whispers, you never know where they will take you. For me, nature is now screaming to me that I have value and can contribute. Now, it is time to listen to the next whisper, my calling.

Nature is whispering that my calling is to help people achieve their goals. This is why I am working to build a world where goals don’t die of loneliness. If the goal is important, it deserves the chance to succeed, even if it ultimately results in failure.

My plea to you is to listen to the whispers. If it doesn’t feel right, it is time to make a change. If you have a dream, don’t ignore it. If you need a voice to help you listen to the whisper, just let me know, and I would be honored to help.

I believe in you; let me help YOU believe in you!
