Amuse Bouche
My amuse bouche for you today is a light “dad joke” to entertain your mind before we get down to business. Like any other amuse bouche, you may hate it, but it is worth every penny that you paid for it, right?
A man was picking through the frozen turkeys at the grocery store for Thanksgiving Day, but couldn’t find one big enough for his family. He asked a stock boy, “Do these turkeys get any bigger?”
“No, sir,” the stock boy replied. “They’re dead.”
Goal Success by Choice
Do you have dreams that you are trying to make come true? Do you have a goal that you are trying to crush? Success doesn’t happen by chance. You don’t have to get lucky or win the lottery to live the life of your dreams.
You just have to choose to be successful. If you make the right daily choices, adopt good habits and behaviors, and approach life with the right mindset, you can make your dreams come true.
Goal Success by Choice helps you make the choices that will move you closer to your goals and keep you from holding yourself back.
I hope this post helps you get a little closer to crushing your goals.
Giving Thanks
“Reflect upon your present blessings—of which every man has many—not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some.”
Charles Dickens
Short post today, but an important message.
This is Thanksgiving week in the United States, which means a three-day workweek for most of us. But the importance of this holiday is way more significant than having a super long weekend and Black Friday sales.
Thanksgiving started as a day to give thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. Said differently, this is a holiday meant for us to focus on gratitude and count our blessings.
Choosing Gratitude
I started Goal Success by Choice to explore the daily choices we can each make to help ensure the success of our goals. Gratitude is one of those choices.
Study after study continues to prove the many benefits of gratitude. Here are a handful of the benefits associated with gratitude:
- Increased feelings of happiness, better mood and improved emotional regulation
- Improved sleep quality
- Reduced stress and burnout
- Increased resiliency – essential these days
- More hopeful
- Improved relationships
- Better self-esteem
- Better physical health
All of these benefits, and the many more that I didn’t list, will result in living a happier, healthier and more productive life. Gratitude is undoubtedly one of the best choices you can make to control your mind (see Mind Control Powers).
Getting Started
You don’t need any special training, equipment or more hours in your day to start choosing gratitude. Establishing a basic gratitude practice is very simple.
One easy way to kick off your gratitude practice is a daily gratitude journal (which can just be a notebook or your favorite notetaking app). Every night, just before bed, grab your gratitude journal and write down at least three things you are grateful for in your life. These can be things that happened today, people or anything else that makes you feel grateful.
That’s it! One easy step to start your gratitude practice. Doing this every day will make you more aware of gratitude through each day. You will likely be so focused on paying attention to what you are grateful for that you don’t spend time on other things. You may be able to completely let go of self-limiting behaviors such as worrying and focusing on negativity. A gratitude practice is another way to choose disciplined over default behaviors (see Discipline Not Default).
Thank You!
Before I wrap up, I want to pause to express some gratitude myself.

So What?
Happy Thanksgiving week! Many of us will be pausing to give thanks this Thursday, but why stop there? By establishing a daily gratitude practice, you can reap the rewards of giving thanks every day. These include building a happier, more productive life where more of your goals come to life.
