Eclipse Life Lesson: How To Set The World On Fire

In Ask Coach Tony, you can put my Operation Melt coaching to the test by asking me questions about how to achieve your goals.

Because a question asked by one is often a question had by many, I am regularly sharing these answers via the Operation Melt blog.

Are you ready for a dad joke?

I offer you this "dad joke" as a light "amuse-bouche" to entertain your mind before we get serious. My dad joke may be groan-worthy, but it's worth every penny you paid for it, right?

I was wondering why my neighbor's frisbee kept getting larger... then it hit me!

Eclipse Life Lesson: How To Set The World On Fire

Earlier this week, millions watched as the moon passed between the Earth and the sun, causing a rare total solar eclipse. Due to its rarity, magic and a fair amount of overhyping, this event was the most-watched celestial event in history. While plenty of naysayers downplayed its importance, it was actually a spectacular, once-in-a-lifetime show witnessed by tens of millions of people in America.

Despite its majesty, I am pretty confident you are tired of hearing about the eclipse.

If you will indulge me in talking about the eclipse one final time, I want to share one big ah-ha from it and the metaphor for goals.

So much energy…

As the eclipse approached the moment of totality, when the sun was completely covered, there was a moment when only a tiny sliver of sunlight remained, peeking around the moon.

To my surprise, this tiny bit of sunlight still fully illuminated the sky. Yes, the temperatures had fallen significantly, but this small amount of the sun still produced enough energy that you could not tell anything had changed. It still looked like it was the middle of the day.

Then, just a minute later, it was dark, and the sun was totally eclipsed by the moon.

It’s hard to imagine something with so much energy that it can still shine so bright despite being ninety percent covered. This was also a good reminder of how much power the sun has when nothing is obstructing it.

P.S. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen.

Focus and fire…

As powerful as an unobstructed sun is, you can make it even more powerful.

Have you ever played with a magnifying glass in the sun?

As the sun’s rays shine through a magnifying glass, the lens focuses the energy on a single spot. When this energy is focused, it is amplified and becomes powerful enough to start a fire.

Wow… when properly focused, already powerful energy is amplified.

Set the world on fire…

These ah-has about the sun are an excellent metaphor for the energy inside of you. In the interest of brevity, I will just share the metaphor and won’t go super deep into the how. I will continue sharing strategies for this in future blogs, so make sure to subscribe to my emails.

Ok… here goes.

You have way more energy and power in you than you may think. But you may be walking around in a constant state of partial eclipse, which is dimming your light.

Are there things obstructing your energy like the moon obstructed the sun? Things like your limiting beliefs, unsettled trauma or constant distractions can serve as barriers that prevent you from harnessing your full energy. Removing your distractions and other obstacles immediately unleashes more of your energy.

By clearing your barriers, you can let your full light shine.

Then, it’s time to grab your magnifying glass.

Setting goals works like a magnifying glass does for sunlight. A goal focuses your energy on something important to you. This focused energy is significantly more powerful and can help you set the world on fire (figuratively).

Are you ready to remove your eclipse and get back to the point of unobstructed energy? Do you need a little help building your magnifying glass? Coaching can help you achieve both of these. Let’s work together to make the sun rise on a new day in your life.

I believe in you; let me help YOU believe in you!
