Why haven’t you found your ideal job despite searching high and low? It might be that you have too many options. When your field of possibilities is wide open, it is more difficult to focus your efforts on looking where the job of your dreams is hiding.
Finding your ideal job is like solving a complex jigsaw puzzle.
Do you remember the last time you tried to assemble a jigsaw puzzle? How did you get started? Do you just start grabbing pieces and trying to stick them together? Of course not. You first found the corner and edge pieces to create the outer border. With the border in place, providing you with boundaries, assembling the pieces of your puzzle was much easier.
Finding your ideal job works the same way.
This Ideal Job Blueprint exercise will help you create the border around your ideal job. By giving yourself these boundaries, you can refine your focus on assembling the pieces for the job that’s best for you.
What does the border around your job look like? It includes the following four sides:
- What role do you want your job to play in your life?
- What are your values, especially as they pertain to your job?
- What are your skills & interests that you want to use in your work?
- What boundaries (red and green flags) do you want to apply to your job (money, culture, expectations, work environment, etc.)?
